This Thursday is the first anniversary of Disney Frozen! :D
As a proud fan, of course I have to blog a special post as a tribute to this phenomenal movie. How phenomenal this movie is, you ask? Well, it is the only animation movie that sits in the top 10 of all time worldwide box office grosses (rank 5 to be precise) with $1.2 billion revenue (that is only for the theatrical revenue, can you imagine how much revenue they have from Home Entertainment and merchandises? :D)! This movie also won the Oscar for the best animated movie and Robert Lopez (the composer of the famous Let It Go – the OST of Frozen) is now one of only 12 people who are EGOT winners (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony which are the 4 top awards in music industry). I told you, this movie is a phenomenon. :)
It is not only a phenomenon in the world but also in our family. Here are the proofs on how this movie has influenced our life this past year…
1. November 2013
Of course we had to watch this movie on the first day it was showing in the theater. We were on vacation in San Francisco at that time and usually we had never gone to the movie when we were on vacation before. But this was an exception. We just could not wait! (Click here to read the story)
2. December 2013
The soundtrack had instantly been part of our life. Andrew and Emma constantly sang Let It Go and Do You Want To Build A Snowman even though they did not know the lyrics yet. (Click here to watch the video)
3. January 2014
We watched Disney Frozen in the movie theater for the second time! This was the first time for us to watch the same movie in the theater twice. It was just when we woke up in the morning and thought ‘why don’t we go to the movie and watch Frozen again?’. And so we did! :P (Click here to read the story)
4. February 2014
2 hour wait to meet Elsa & Anna in Disneyland? No problem! It was worth the effort after seeing how happy the kids meeting the most famous princesses in the world! :D (Click here to read the story)
5. March 2014
We pre-ordered the DVD. On the day when the DVD arrived, I believe Emma watched the movie 5 times! Yes, in one day! :P And since then, I have lost count on how many times we watched this DVD! :P (Click here to read the story)
6. April-May 2014
The madness of Frozen merchandises was out of control. All were sold out. The dress was sold on Amazon and Ebay as high as $900! You could not find one below $300. I did not have plan to buy the dress for Emma, but I was eyeing the figurine set for Emma’s birthday since Emma loved playing with figurines. After a while, Disneystore.com started to have stocks every now and then. You would have never known when they had the stock and they would be sold out within less than an hour. So I did check disneystore.com almost every night for about 1 month (yeah I know… I was crazy :P)! And one night, I saw that the figurine set was in stock! I bought it right away and it was sold out only within few minutes after I bought!:D Emma loved playing with the figurines even though not so much anymore now. :P (Click here to see the picture of the figurine set that I posted on Instagram)
7. July 2014
One of Emma’s birthday present was Elsa and Anna look-a-like plush dolls (they were actually labelled as Elisa and Anaya :P) from my sister. Since then, El(i)sa doll has become Emma’s favorite. (Click here to see the picture)
8. September 2014
I have never been interested in Once Upon A Time TV series. I tried to watch a couple of the first season’s episodes but did not find it interesting. But when I heard that the new season of OUAT would have the Frozen’s story, of course it had instantly caught my attention! And apparently this was a must-watch for any Frozen fans out there because they revealed the untold stories of Frozen. What happened after the movie has ended. Where and why Elsa and Anna’s parents went when they died. There was also some background story of Elsa & Anna’s family. Very interesting. :) (Click here to read the story)
9. October 2014
We wanted to go with a theme this year for our Halloween costumes. It was a no brainer that the theme was… Frozen! :P Emma had Elsa costume as one of her birthday presents from Esther’s friend, and we decided to make our own costumes for the rest of us (Olaf for Andrew, Anna for Esther, and Kristoff for me). It was so fun! :D (Click here for the DIY tutorial)
10. November 2014
It had been a while that we did not listen to Frozen soundtrack and watch the DVD. But out of nowhere (maybe because of the hype after we did our Halloween costumes), Emma started singing Let It Go again. And this time… she picked up most of the words! No one ever taught her (I don’t know the lyrics myself) but somehow she managed to learn the lyrics herself. Good job, Emma! :D (Click here to see the video)
And for the Disney Frozen anniversary, Andrew and I have been preparing something special!
It is a piano cover of Disney Frozen songs medley. After so many song cover that I did in the past, this was the first time I made a medley arrangement. It was like playing a puzzle. I had to think of how to cut and link one song to another. It was a fun process! :D
So I managed to make a medley of Let It Go – For The First Time In Forever – Do You Want To Build A Snowman – Let It Go. I changed the key from A flat (the original key of Let It Go) to G to make it easier for Andrew to learn. However, this was the longest song (without repetition at all) that Andrew has ever learned and played, and he did an awesome job! :D
At first I was worried that this medley was too difficult for Andrew, but this kid has never failed to amaze me. He took it just like that!
So… here is the video of our Disney Frozen Medley! Enjoy! (Don’t forget to stop the Soundcloud widget at the bottom of this blog first) :D
Happy anniversary, Disney Frozen!
